In 2014 Round Lake Vineyards leased Shady Oaks Vineyard from the Hedquist family. The mature 7-acre vineyard is planted with similar varieties as the estate vineyards with the addition of Frontenac Blanc and St Criox. The vineyard is on the ridge of a steep riverbank that offers exceptional airflow for healthy vines. Shady Oaks produces great fruit that will complement the wines offered now through Round Lake Vineyards & Winery.
Also in 2014, StxnStnz Vineyard was leased from Tim and Jennifer Sather. These vines are of similar variety to the estate vines, but the soil offers a different minerality. It will be exciting to compare the flavor profiles once the wine is in the tank.
Our Vineyards- Locations
Round Lake Vineyards & Winery farms 27 acres of grapes in Southwest Minnesota and Northwest Iowa. Its estate vineyards include 18 acres of vines with another 7 acres located just north of Heron Lake, Minnesota and 2 acres just outside of Milford, Iowa.
The first 4 acres were planted on Scott and Jenny Ellenbecker’s property in 2007 with some good friends. Scott and Jenny always loved vineyards and the wine experience so they jumped in with both feet. The little vineyard project has evolved into one of the largest vineyard operations in the area and continues to grow. Today there are over 10,000 vines on the property with the plan to add more in the coming years.
